We are Lotte (24) and Anne (22), two studying sisters in Amsterdam. Lotte has two bachelors’ degrees one in Spanish Language and Culture and another in Cultural Anthropology both done at the UvA, she is currently doing her masters degree in Latin-American Studies at the UvA. Anne is currently studying Media and Culture at the UvA.

Anne & Lotte: When both of us had just began living in Amsterdam we decided to look up some babysitting opportunities. Ever since we were teenagers we’ve been babysitting so it seemed like a fun thing to do again in Amsterdam. After placing our ads on various sites the responses started streaming in and this showed us how big the demand was for babysitting students in Amsterdam. In recent years, we where often asked if we had any more space for another family, but since we didn’t have any more free time, we passed it along to students we knew. This is how the idea started to start a single network to help put families and students willing to babysit together. It’s now almost a year later and OppasStudent has grown to a comprehensive network of families and students.

The organization recently has been expanded with Freekje (22) and Charlotte (20), both also experienced babysitters. Freekje is a Nursing student in Utrecht and runs OppasStudent Utrecht. Charlotte is studying Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, she is coordinator of the introductory meetings with students in Amsterdam.
